High school…
High school was great.
She had girlfriends…
And boyfriends…
And fun.
Two years after graduation, she married.
Twenty years old….
And married…
And happy.
Life was good.
One day, when she was still twenty…
When life was still good…
She went to the doctor.
She didn’t feel quite right.
But she was twenty…
And like all twenty-year-olds, she felt invincible and immortal.
She was sure it was nothing major.
Only it was something major.
A rare disease, the doctor said.
Not fatal, but disabling…
Uncomfortable…
Even painful.
There were procedures…
And operations…
And medications.
Years later, there is still pain…
Some of it physical.
Some of it emotional.
Life isn’t fun anymore.
Life is a matter of survival.
Her husband tired of the medical procedures…
Tired of caring for his sick wife.
Threatened to leave…
but didn’t.
Until one day he just wasn’t there anymore.
Unable to work…
With no support from her husband…
Life is a battle for survival.
Will she buy food?
Or will she pay the rent?
Will she pay the utility bills?
Or the doctor?
How can she choose between a place to live or food to eat, or the medical care she needs?
There are days when she thinks of the past…
When she longs for the fun of high school…
For the happiness of the first years of her marriage.
It would be easy to blame God for what she has lost.
But she tells her story and says…
“I’m so lucky to have God with me. I don’t know what I’d do without Him.”
In faith she moves one step at a time…
Trusting God will make a way…
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
One step at a time…
Trusting God, whose love is our only certainty in an uncertain world…
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39
