Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord! Psalm 27:14
He lofts the football into the air…
A high, slow spiral…
His sons jockey for position…
The seven-year-old runs under the ball…
Raises his hands above his head…
Closes his eyes at the last minute…
Then as he feels the ball in his hands…
His eyes and mouth snap open…
As he jumps and shouts in surprise and joy…
The father throws the ball again…
This time, it’s a line-drive pass right into the hands of the teenager.
He tucks the ball in, and zags through a field of imaginary tacklers…
Crossing an unseen goal line for the winning touchdown.
The father throws the football again and again…
Each throw carefully crafted to meet the needs o each son…
Until finally, his sons lose interest.
“Let’s do something else,” calls the teenager…
“One more time,” answers the father and throws the ball…
“One more time,” a tireless God says to us…
And lofts the next moment of our lives into the air…
He is a loving father…
…God is love… 1 John 4:16
And because of his love, he is a patient father…
Love is patient …1 Corinthians 13:4
A father who crafts each moment of our lives to meet our needs …
… your Father knows what you need before you ask him. Matthew 6:8
Will we wait for the Lord?
Or will we mistake His patience for indifference?
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9
Will we shout, “Enough, Lord!”
And in impatience move on?
Or will we simply wait for the lord…
Reach our hands into the air…
And with a shout of surprise and Joy…
Receive His perfect gift of love and grace…
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
