Something is wrong…
The guests have arrived for the wedding reception…
The food sits on the buffet table…
Appetizers are within reach…
But nobody makes a move toward either…
The wedding reception is a miracle…
The bride is a special person who has been diagnosed with Bipolar disorder and a number of cognitive challenges…
Two hours ago she realized she’d forgotten to plan a reception…
Could I arrange it? In two Hours? In a strange city?
A hotel clerk listened to God’s whisper and got a room ready and arranged for catering…
The reception wasn’t the only miracle in the wedding…
The bride had a total of two hundred dollars for her wedding dress…
But the owner of a bridal shop listened to a whisper from God and the bride now stands here in a beautiful wedding gown…
Now we are at the reception…
And nobody is making a move to put a morsel on a plate…
The food is ready…
But no one is interested…
Everyone stands looking down at their plates…
Looking very embarrassed…
Raising my voice and holding my hands up to get everyone’s attention, I say, “Thank you so much for being here today to celebrate this wedding with the bride and groom, and for attending their reception.”
“The food is ready. Please feel free to help yourselves!”
No one moves.
No one will make eye contact with me.
Then, God performs one more miracle…
One person speaks…
“We don’t really know you”, he says. “But we all believe in God, and we’d like to thank Him before we eat.”
I had been so focused on trying to get everything finished…
So intent on making sure nothing was forgotten…
That I forgot the One who made it all happen.,..
We prayed…
Thanking God for His presence that day and every day in our lives…
Asking that His presence would be felt every day in the lives of the newlywed couple…
Thanking Him for His provision…
Offering honor and glory to Him and Him alone…
O LORD, You are my God; I will exalt You, I will give thanks to Your name; For You have worked wonders… Isaiah 25:1
