… seek the things that are above... Colossians 3:1-4
Help! I’m trapped in my inbox and I can’t get out!
Junk mail fills my inbox…
I tried to empty it this morning.
I told myself I’d get rid of the junk first so I could focus on the important messages.
But some of the junk was so interesting…
Junk from people who want to put new siding on my house…
Replace my windows…
Refinance my mortgage…
Transfer millions into my bank account…
Reveal the secrets every hair loss sufferer should know…
Sell me a business phone system.
They’ll do any of those things for a price…
They never mention the price.
But I ‘m pretty sure it ends in .95, as in …
$19.95
$29.95
Or even…
“Three easy payments of $39.95…”
But wait, there’s more…
Maybe I’m already paying a price….
The price of distraction…
The price of mis-direction…
The price of lost focus…
The price of time wasted wading through all the garbage in my inbox to get to what really matters…
This morning, when I finished getting rid of the junk, I looked at my watch…
Time to leave for an appointment.
“Don’t worry,” I told myself. “I’ll deal with the important messages later.”
And so I left, knowing that when I returned, my inbox would be as full of junk as ever…
I have to wonder….
Do I treat my spiritual inbox the same way I treat my email?
Do I spend my time focused on the junk?
Offers of cars and houses and power and money…
Isn’t that backwards?
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matthew 6:33
Do I miss the one message that matters?
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
Do I run out of time to follow the command that changes everything?
“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Luke 10:27
