“Where is home?” she wondered…
As she packed boxes to move yet again.
She had cried when she moved out of the house where she grew up…
It was home.
The only home she had ever known.
Today she was packing boxes again…
Moving one more time…
And the question came out of nowhere…
“Where is Home?”
She counted.
She’d lived in six different houses…
The house where she grew up…
Her first apartment…
The rented townhouse where her brand-new husband carried her across the threshold…
The tiny house where she brought her first baby home…
The house where her daughter had grown up…
The House where she was packing boxes today…
Where they had moved for a new job opportunity…
She had called each one of them home…
And left a little bit of her heart in each one…
Now as she packed again, she wondered…
Where is home?
She thought again of the sign she had seen in the store…
Home is wherever I am with you…
Home, she thought… was defined not by the houses in which she’d lived …
But by the people she had lived there with her…
People to whom she had given her heart.
Her parents…
Her sister…
her husband…
Her daughter…
Wherever she lived with them, was home.
But maybe there was more…
She had also given her heart to God…
She remembered a verse…
Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. John 14:23
Stunning… that God would make His home with her, here on this earth.
And when her home was no longer on this earth?
In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. John 14:2-3
Then she would truly be…
…at home with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:8

Home, I’ve often ask the same question. Thank you for this reminder of where our final home will be.
I find it amazing that the God of the universe would allow us to make our home with Him in the next life…and make His home with us in this one.
