Christian Devotional-Stories and Bible verses about the presence of God in our lives

Daydreaming? During Communion ?

I was daydreaming in church…

communionIt was time for communion …

We would eat the same little bread cubes…

Drink the same tiny plastic glass of wine…

(OK-We’d drink the same tiny plastic glass of grape juice…)

And we would do it all while reading the same Bible verse…

I wasn’t paying much attention to the words of the verse…

I had heard it so many times… I knew the story…

The story of the Last Supper…

And the first communion …

How many times have I taken communion?

How many times have I heard the same verse?

My mind wasn’t really focused on the moment…

Instead I was listening carefully for when the pastor said, “Let’s take the bread together….”

He started reading the verse…

And when He had taken some bread and given thanks, He broke it and gave it to them,

Five words exploded into my consciousness…

“He …gave it to them…”

On that night two thousand years ago…

Jesus…

Who was God in human form…

Jesus…

Through whom the world was made…

Jesus…

Who was destined to be the savior of all humanity…

Jesus…

Personally gave the bread to the disciples.

I looked at the bread I was holding…

And realized…

That in this moment…

In this place…

Jesus had personally handed the bread and the cup to me and to everyone in the room…

And when He had taken some bread and given thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”

And in the same way He took the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in My blood.…Luke 22:19-20

The next time you take communion …

look at the bread…

Look at the cup…

Imagine that Jesus personally handed them to you…

Imagine it…

Because He did.
