Christian Devotional-Stories and Bible verses about the presence of God in our lives

Faith – The Diagnosis

Fourteen years…

FaithThat’s how long it had been since he was first been diagnosed with cancer…

It wasn’t a simple cancer …

If any cancer can be called simple…

It wasn’t one that was easily cured…

If any cancer can be classified that way…

They told him long ago that it was a stage four cancer…

Somehow he learned to live with it…

He found God during his struggle with the disease…

His faith in God changed him…

He had been a very demanding boss at work…

He still expected top results from his team…

But now he led them with a much softer voice, and heart…

Results were even higher than before.

Relationships with family and friends grew closer…

Fourteen years…

There were times when he could almost forget words like “cancer” and “stage-four”.

Fourteen years…

He thanked God for every day.

Fourteen years…

Then he looked in the mirror one day…

And saw a growth he didn’t expect…

His doctor confirmed it.

The medication had stopped working…

His cancer was back…

“I‘ve been sick for the last week,” he said.

“Things don’t go well when you’re sick.”

I thought he would tell me about his personal difficulties…

Instead he said, “There are people who count on me, and I worry that I wasn’t there for them…

(Read the story of the rest of his week… The story of his Grandson who faced a crisis, and his good friend whose heart stopped. Twice.)

His faith was strong…

“I know I am in good hands.” he said.  The new medicine is working.  Some call it a ‘miracle drug’.  I never would have tried it if the old medicine hadn’t stopped working.”

Fourteen years…

Struggling with cancer

Fourteen years…

In which God was always with him…

“Never will I leave you;
never will I forsake you. Hebrews 13:5

Fourteen years…

In which he had been changed more by God than by his disease…

God does not further our spiritual life in spite of our circumstances, but in and by our circumstances.  Oswald Chambers Not Knowing Whither, 900 L
