Christian Devotional-Stories and Bible verses about the presence of God in our lives

Strength – in Troubled Times

She prayed for strength as she walked down the hospital corridor…

Strength

She prayed that her new friend’s procedure had gone well…

She prayed for a positive prognosis…

The two women had met only a few days ago.

But there had been an instant rapport.

“Where do you work?” her new friend asked.

“At a hospital”.

“Really.  Which one?”

When she answered, her friend paused, looked down at the floor, then looked up and said, “I’ll be there tomorrow.  They just found cancer, and they’re removing the tumor.  Would you stop and see me?”

It was one day after the surgery, and she was walking down the hallway to her new friend’s room, with a mission in mind…

To give her comfort, she thought.  To give her strength….

Then she was in the room.

Her friend was sitting up and alert.

The procedure had but gone well, But…

“They tell me I have stage-four cancer.”

Her friend was calm.

“I have to process what the doctor said.  I don’t know how I feel.  They’ll start chemo soon.”

They chatted about her friend’s daughter and her husband.  She was worried how they would react to her diagnosis.

“Three weeks ago, I thought I was a healthy woman riding her bike, rushing around doing all my errands.  Never thinking I’d be in a hospital bed.”

In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart;

I have overcome the world.”

John 16:31

She snapped her fingers.  “And just like that.  Everything changed.  I feel at peace.  I still love my God.  I still believe.”

God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.

Psalm 46:1

Then she smiled.  “I wonder” she said, “how God will use this.  How he will use me.”

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope

Jeremiah 29:11-14

God was already using her… to share His strength and hope and courage.
