First a true story about control….
“I started drinking when I was 12…”
she says to her friend….
“I drank all the way through high school…”
“My parents didn’t know…”
“Then I started doing drugs…”
“My life was a mess…”
“I lost all my friends…”
“Drinking and taking drugs were all I had left…”
“And then one day I woke up and realized…”
“I wanted to be in control of my life…”
“So, I stopped drinking…”
“And stopped the drugs…”
She sits near me in a restaurant…
Speaking loudly enough for everyone to hear.
The room hushes as people look discreetly at their food…
The sudden quiet filled only by her voice and the clatter of silverware against plates…
She sighs…
“It wasn’t easy, she says…”
“But I wanted to be in total control…”
She moves on to another topic…
Her voice lowers…
The conversational hum returns to the room.
What a courageous decision she made…
What a God-honoring decision to stop taking drugs and stop abusing alcohol.
Yet one phrase comes back to me…
“I wanted to be in total control.”
How often have we all wanted to be in total control?
Relying on our own plans instead of God’s plans…
Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand. Proverbs 19:21
Relying on our own strength instead of God’s strength…
… I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10
Forgetting that only when we surrender to his control…
Will we find true victory…

Yes, no brag, just Fact, especially in the mercy given us. As he does not take it back. Those that do believe, not just say they do believe get to see after tragedies we all go through as told so in John 16:33. So stand then, even if you are sinning. Are you doing it against another, fro selfish gain as King David did, then repented even after causing the husband of Bathsheba to be killed.
He repented, was never perfect, but God was, is and always will be
