34 Top Bible Verses-How To Pray

The pastor is passionate about his sermon topic…

“Never,” he says…

His voice rising as he repeats the word…

“Never…”

What is so urgent that we must NOT do?

“Never,” he says one more time…

“Never say that children’s prayer…”

What children’s prayer is he talking about?

You know the one…

Now I lay me down to sleep…

I pray the LORD my soul to keep…

If I should die before I wake…

I pray the LORD my soul to take…

Why should we not pray that prayer?

“You are no longer a child,” says the pastor…”

“You are more sophisticated than a child…”

“You know more about God than a child knows…”

“You are grown up…”

“So pray like a grown-up,” says the pastor”

I listen and my prideful self agrees…

But I wonder…

What do we leave behind when we abandon our childish ways?

Do we leave behind our wonder?

Our awe?

Our certainty that we need help?

Is it childish to stand before the God of the universe in total awe?

To know that before Him we are weak?

To know that in this life…

And in the next…

We are dependent on Him alone?

Praying like a child?

Maybe it’s not such a bad place to start our prayer life…

After all, what did Jesus say about who would be the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?

…“Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 18:3-4
