I once met a guy who put his desk on a raised platform …
And sawed off the legs of the visitor chairs in his office!
Note: If you just got a great idea for redecorating your office…

This post is for you!
Yes, we want to be great…
And we want people to tell us we are great..
To tell us that we are smart, successful, beautiful, handsome…
What’s the modern term for it?
We want “validation”.
But there’s nothing modern about that desire…
Even the disciples wanted “validation”.
They asked Jesus …
“Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”
And he had a surprising answer…
“Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven…
Ah the purity of little children!
But how quickly little children become little adults…
“Stop that right now, our granddaughter yells to her younger brother.
Why? He asks.
Because I’m the big sister and I say so!
Ah, the power and greatness of the big-sister!
We all want greatness
The question is…
Where do we seek our greatness?
Do we seek it here in this world, which is fading away?
Or in the permanent world of the kingdom of heaven?
At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven…
But Jesus called them to him and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; …
Neither be called instructors, for you have one instructor, the Christ. The greatest among you shall be your servant. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.
Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all
