Bach’s Secret Code-A Prayer to God

J.J.

BachThe great composer Bach sits facing a blank piece of paper.

He reaches for his pen.

The first thing he writes on the paper?

The letters “J.J.”

It is a prayer.

He finishes the work.

The last thing he writes on the paper?

The letters “S.D.G.”

It is a prayer.

Bach was a man of great faith.  Before he began any work, he wrote the letters “J.J.” for the Latin words “Jesu Juva”.

They mean “Jesus, help me”.

He ended each work with the letters “S.D.G.” for the Latin words “Soli Deo Gloria”.

They translate “To God alone be the Glory.”

God will be with us today…

Will we see Him?

Will we recognize our need for His help?

Will we admit with a few words that without Him we can do nothing?

Jesu Juva — Jesus Help me

God will be with us today…

Will we see him?

With a few simple words, will we dedicate everything we do to Him and Him alone?

Soli Deo Gloria — To God alone be the glory
