Christian Devotional-Stories and Bible verses about the presence of God in our lives

Will God Help Us Survive Chaos?

Quiz question:  Which produces more decibels?

The roar of a jet?

Or the piercing cry of a baby?

chaosAs I move my three month old grandson up to my shoulder…

and next to my ear…

I know the answer.

Looking for the perfect sound for a warning siren?

One that will get everybody’s attention?

How about a recording of the cries of a baby?

Whenever I hear that sound, a picture comes instantly to mind…

Red face, knotted fists, eyes scrunched closed as if in pain…

(And that’s just me.  You should see the baby!)

If only I knew what was wrong…

Food?

He’s just eaten….

Diaper?

Clean and dry.

Pacifier?

No Interest.

Burping?  Rocking?  Singing?

No! No! and No!

The wails get louder…

Chaos nears…

In the background, I hear a small voice…

Turning to my right I see my two year old granddaughter, singing along with her favorite toddler tune…

She’s sitting right beside me and her screaming brother, but she doesn’t even notice the building chaos…

It’s just part of the day-to-day life of a big sister…

She’s the calmest person in the room.

I could attribute her calm to the fact that she’s a toddler and “doesn’t know better”.

But I might be missing the point if I think that way…

And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Mathew 18:3

I might be missing the message God wants us all to hear about where to direct our focus when there’s chaos everywhere…

Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.  Colossians 3:2

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if  there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.  Philippians 4:8
