Some decisions are easy…
This one was difficult.
Sometimes there’s a clear direction to follow…
This time there were many options…
None of them seemed really bad…
But which one honored God?
It was several years ago when the WWJD (What Would Jesus Do) bracelets were really popular.
I was wearing one.
I looked at the bracelet and prayed for guidance…
I sat quietly, trying to stay focused on discerning an answer…
I had to make a decision soon…
Nothing.
That night, I told my wife about the problem…
“ ‘WWJD’ doesn’t seem to be helping me make a decision.”
“You should get a new bracelet.” She said.
“Huh?”
“Inscribe it with ‘WDJD’.”
“WDJD?”
“What DID Jesus do?”
What did Jesus do?
He came to the earth as a humble baby even though the entire universe was created through Him…
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” Luke 21:11-12
When he faced the devil in the desert, His question was ‘WWGD’… What would God do?
Satan tempted Him to give up his reliance on God for His daily needs…
And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. And the tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.” 4 But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” Matthew 4:2-4
Satan offered Him worldly power and fame…at the price of denying God…
Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to him, “All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.”
Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written, “‘You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.’” Matthew 4:8-10
Each decision was clear to Jesus because he could answer the question: “What Did God do?”
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
For us, the answer to ‘WWJD?’ comes from study of what He did…
And if we know what He did, then we will know his will and God’s and we can declare with Him…
… not my will, but yours be done.” Luke 22:42
