Christian Devotional-Stories and Bible verses about the presence of God in our lives

Do Good to Those Who Hate You

“… Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you … Luke 6:27

Will she be at the football TV party?

Do good to those who hate you

It’s the question everybody asks…

Why does everyone want her at the party?

Let’s just say she’s an enthusiastic fan of one of the teams…

But wait…

Enthusiastic may not be a strong enough description…

How about dedicated?

No, she’s more than dedicated…

Devoted?

Getting closer…

Fervent?

Zealous?

You decide…

Kick off time!

“Hit Him!”

“Hit Him!” she yells as the other team’s receiver runs down field…

“Hit him hard!”

“Break his legs!”

“Just kidding,” she says and laughs.

The runner goes down…

Vanishing under a pile of bodies.

Uh Oh…

He hasn’t moved.

Trainers and coaches surround him….

Put an inflatable cast on his leg…

Lift him on a stretcher …

“Looks like a pretty serious leg injury,” the announcer says.

“Really, I was just kidding!” she says…

There is no doubt she is an enthusiastic, devoted, dedicated, fervent, zealous fan.

I watch…

And wonder why I can’t be more like her.

(No, I don’t want to break anybody’s leg!)

But she’s totally devoted to her team’s victory.

I’m supposed to be a follower of Christ…

Yet who would describe me as…

Dedicated?

Devoted?

Fervent?

Who hears me shout with my words and actions…

Love Them…

“But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,  Luke 6:27

Clothe them…

…“Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none…

Feed them!

And anyone who has food should do the same.”  Luke 3:11

Pray for them…

…pray for those who persecute you…Matthew 5:44

Why can’t we all be enthusiastic, devoted, dedicated, fervent, zealous fans of Christ?
Following His commands…

“If you love me, keep my commands.  John 14:15

Loving as He taught us…

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’  The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”   Mark 12:30-31

Loving even our enemies…

“… Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you … Luke 6:27

Knowing that one day he will say to us…

….‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’   Matthew 25:40
