Christian Devotional-Stories and Bible verses about the presence of God in our lives

Following Jesus

Following Jesus …

She walks silently across the floor…

Stops a few feet away…

Flops down in a patch of light…

Following Jesus

And falls instantly asleep.

How, I want to know, did our cat get in the room?

The door is shut…

Locked.

But there she lays in the patch of sun behind me.

She considers it a personal affront if we even consider being in a room without her.

If we dare to close a door…

She’ll bang against it, hoping to knock it open.

Then she’ll jump at the door handle.

I am not kidding…she really opens the door with the handle.
If all else fails, she’ll simply sit outside the door howling until we open it.

She follows us everywhere.

She follows us closely.

She follows us constantly.

Is someone folding laundry?

She sits quietly in the corner purring.

Is someone sitting a chair?

She is in their lap.

Did someone just come in from outside?

She stands inside the door…

A one cat welcoming committee.

I can’t help but wonder …

If we follow Jesus that closely, where will He lead us?

Will He lead us into love for others?

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another…John 13:34

Will he lead us away from love of our possessions?

Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Luke 12:33

Will He lead us toward true treasure?

Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. Luke 12:33

Will he lead us into storms where our only hope is faith in Him?

And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him. And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep. And they went and woke him, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing.” And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Matthew 8:23-26

Where will Jesus lead us?

How far will we follow Him?

We’ll never know until we lift our feet…

And our cross…

And take the first step in a journey of following Jesus …

…“If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.  Matthew 16:24
