Christian Devotional-Stories and Bible verses about the presence of God in our lives

Godly Patience

I Wait for the Lord… Psalm 130:5

“Thirty minutes,” she says…

 patience

They are putting new lenses in my glasses

“We’ll have them done in half an hour.”

Thirty minutes.

Patience.  I need patience …

I walk into another store in the mall store just to look around and demonstrate my patience…

Surprise, surprise!

I see something I want.

Every register is full…

“Patience,” I tell myself.

My turn comes and I walk up to the register.

The cashier refuses to make eye contact and stands silently by her register.

“Hello,” I say.

No response.

Another customer approaches.

The cashier smiles and motions her over.

“I’m sorry,” she says to me.

“I’m serving customers who come from my right.  You approached from the left.”

A few words come to mind.

“Patience,” whispers God.

But I have no patience.

Setting down my purchase, I walk quickly back to the eyeglass store…

Are my glasses ready?

“I am so sorry,” says the woman behind the counter

“When we tried to cut the lens to fit your frame, it cracked.  We’ll have to re-order.  We’ll call you in about two weeks.”

Two weeks?

I want my glasses today.

Two weeks?

I am ready to say unpleasant things…

“Patience,” whispers God.

Patience?

Really God?

Why patience?

Be not quick in your spirit to become angry, for anger lodges in the bosom of fools.  Ecclesiastes 7:9

Well, I guess I don’t want to be a fool…

But how will I learn to be patient?

from the example of God…

The Lord …is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.  2 Peter 3:9

From the gift of the Holy Spirit…

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness…Galatians 5:22

Why does patience matter?

Maybe God is using all these small incidents to teach us how to wait patiently for Him…

The times we find ourselves having to wait on others may be the perfect opportunities to train ourselves to wait on the Lord.”  Joni Eareckson Tada

To wait with patience…

And faith…

And hope…

I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope…Psalm 130:5
