Completely self-confident…
Completely satisfied with what he is doing…
My Grandson.
Sixteen months old and able to feed himself.
Almost.
He’s not getting much food into his mouth…
I know he’ll be unhappy and hungry in just a little while…
And so I try to feed him.
He waves his hands….
Hits the spoon…
And sends the food flying.
I sigh…
Put down the spoon…
And watch and smile while he continues trying to eat.
He is supremely happy.
Supremely proud of his abilities.
Supremely incompetent.
How much like me…
Confident I can manage my life…
Happy with my own efforts.
Sometimes proud.
Always incompetent.
God watches us as we struggle…
Struggle with our pride and incompetence.
God watches us with love…
But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8
Watches us with Patience…
The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. 2 Peter 3:9
Watches us always…
Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you. Hebrews 13:5
Watches…
Watches and waits.
Waits for us to rely on Him more than we rely ourselves…
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. Proverbs 3:5
God watches all we do…
And waits for us to return to Him…
Waits for us to return to His love…
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39
