Grumbling Against God

Day One…

sadGrumbling was out of the question…

It was the first day of her first job after graduation…

No more classes or tests or exams…

Finally!  She was using her training in the real world!

Day 45…

Time for a little grumbling…

The job was OK…

Her boss was stupid…

The pay was lower than expected…

She must have been really dumb to take this job…

Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.

Ever been there?

we all have…

So were the Israelites on their journey from Egypt to the Promised Land…

On the 45th day of the journey they started  grumbling against their leaders…

And the whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness:

And the children of Israel said unto them, Would to God we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, Exodus 16: 2-3

And then Moses said something remarkable to the people of Israel…

“…your murmurings are not against us, but against the Lord.” Exodus 16:8

Could our grumbling really be against God?

Even when we think we are simply grumbling about our own failings?

“I am not strong enough…”

God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.  Psalm 46:1

“I am afraid I will fail…”

Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea  Psalm 46:2

“I don’t even know where to look for God…”

In the middle of the desert, the Israelites looked for God and found Him … not in some great celestial palace…But right there with them in the middle of their desert…

…they looked toward the desert, and there was the glory of the Lord appearing in the cloud. Exodus 16:10

After we find Him…

After we stop our grumbling…

When we stand in awed silence at the realization that He alone is strong and wise and loving…

What do we do next?

“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. Mathew 7:7

If we keep on asking and seeking and knocking…

then we will be able to say…

I sought the Lord, and he answered me;
he delivered me from all my fears.  Psalm 34:4
