I read the article’s headline again…
I thought back…
what had changed our family’s house into a home?
It began the day we were married…
My wife and I left our wedding reception and drove to the rented apartment that was our first house….
We got out of the car…she in her wedding dress, me in my tux.
“Carry me across the threshold!” she said….
Neighbors watched as I complied…
I will always remember that moment…
Our first house was becoming a home…
I remember many things from the years since…
I remember cries of a hungry baby at two in the morning…
Sounds of children playing in our yard…
Screeches of a bassoon in the hands of a 13 year old…
Conversation and laughter at the dinner table…
Chaos when my daughter’s entire wedding party spent the night before her ceremony at our house.
Those memories made our house a home, but love created the memories…
Love composed a symphony from the noise…
Love lifted chaos into joy…
Love turned our house into a home…
Where can we find love?
Can we rely on ourselves for love?
Does love come from within us?
Or does it come from somewhere… Someone… else?
“Love is from God” 1 John 4:7
What do we do with God’s love once we find it?
He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'” Luke 10:27
Did you ever think…
If we love our neighbors…
If we love God with our heart and strength and mind…
it is not just our house that will be turned into a home…
It is our soul.
God will turn our soul into a home for his Spirit…
Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you 1 Corinthians 3:16
When our soul becomes home to the spirit and love of God…
We will love others not from our own strength, which will surely fail…
But from the depth and strength of an unending love…
Love that can only come from God…
How priceless is your unfailing love, O God! Psalm 36:7
