Christian Devotional-Stories and Bible verses about the presence of God in our lives

Question from God: “Where are You?”

Then the LORD God called… “Where are you?”   Genesis 3:9

Where are you?

I see you at the grocery store…

Where are you?

But you aren’t really there.

I see your eyes…

They look past the shelves and the shoppers…

They look to some other place.

You sigh as you pass me…

Where are your eyes looking?

Where is your heart?

Where are you?

Are you in a place of sorrow?

Where are you?

I see you just a few feet away…

But you’re not really there.

I hear your conversation with your friends….

Conversation about summer…

About vacations…

About the beach…

You are many miles and many months from the winter mix of slush and ice waiting for you in the parking lot.

Where are you?

Are you in a warmer, more beautiful place?

Are you in paradise?

Where are you?

I see you leaning against the wall near the grocery check-out lines.

But you’re not really there.

You dial your phone…

I hear you say, “So I just found out my paycheck will be a little short next week…”

“I won’t have enough to cover the rent.”

You’ve moved your shopping cart out of the line…

Do you have money to buy groceries?

Where are you?

Are you in a place of fear?

Where am I?

Where is my mind?

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, Romans 12:2

 Where is my heart?

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:21

Where is my soul?

For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?  Matthew 16:26

Will I see you when you need me?

Will I hear you?

Will I reach out to you?

Or will I be blinded…

By my own pain…

By my own happiness…

By my own busy life?

…I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me… Acts 20:24

Where are we? All of us?

Are we present with God?

Are present with the people He put near us?

Do we see them with His eyes?

Feel their pain with His heart?

Reach out to them with His hands?

Or like Adam and Eve, do we drift from His purpose to our own, and hide in vain as He calls out to us…

And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.

Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?”

Genesis 3:8-9
