“Be still, and know that I am God…” Psalm 46:10
Ignore God?
I do it every day…
Even when His beauty is all around me…
I even have a favorite way to ignore God: Being busy…
Even when I am not really busy at all…
Even when God gives me time to be with Him…
I take a walk every day…
a multi-mile walk at the fastest pace possible.
Not wanting to waste time while I walk, I listen to podcasts or music.
Sometimes the podcasts I listen to are sermons or Bible studies…
Nothing wrong with that, right?
Then it hit me. (Or maybe God whispered it to me.)
Walking with my ears plugged with ear buds and my mind buzzing about the day ahead, was like walking in a windowless tunnel.
Not only was I was missing the joy of being outside…
I had found a way to ignore God.
I was missing God’s great gift of being present in the moment with Him…
I went for my morning walk the next day without my earphones.
It was a fall day…
I watched the geese landing in formation on the pond…
Saw the amazing colors of the turning leaves…
Noticed the pattern they created when they fell on the walking path…
I counted the squirrels running up and down the tree trunks and heard the sound of the wind in the drying leaves of fall.
It was amazing how calm I felt when I got home from that walk…
How focused I was on God…
“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. Psalm 46:10

I can certainly relate and can say I am guilty of being “too busy” as well. It’s so easy to miss so much in life in the midst of trying to get things done. I’ve often heard the phrase “stop and smell the roses.” When you stop and think about it then it really makes sense because you can’t smell the roses on your grave.
Great Point…You certainly can’t “smell the roses on your grave”
