Christian Devotional-Stories and Bible verses about the presence of God in our lives

Learning to Go when God says, “Go”

“One! Two! Three! Go!” my granddaughter calls out…

GoShe races down the sidewalk giggling and looking to see if I am far behind…

At two she’s proud of her counting skills and even prouder that she can outrace me.

Sometimes she runs before she gets to “three”…

“One! “Two!” and with a big laugh she’s off down the walk!

Ever feel like God’s counting— very slowly…

One…

Two…

When will He get to three?

When will I race down the sidewalk, turn the corner and see what’s ahead?

It’s hard to wait for God… (See ‘Waiting is Hard Work!’)

But sometimes it’s even harder to go when he says, “Go”.

I get comfortable with my current circumstances.

I even get comfortable complaining about my current circumstances!

“Thanks, God.  But I’ll just stay right here…”

To which God replies…

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.  Isaiah 43:18-19

When Abram was 75 years old…when he had built a comfortable life…God said to him…

“Go out from your country, your relatives, and your father’s household to the land that I will show you. Genesis 12:1

God didn’t even tell Abram where to go. He just told him to go…

So Abram went  Genesis 12:4

What does it take to go when God says “Go”?

We might say courage.  But is it courage we need, or faith?

By faith Abraham, when called to go … obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going  Hebrews 11:8

If we need faith to follow God, how do we build that faith?

So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. Romans 10:17

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Psalm 119:105

If we read and study the word of God, will we grow in faith and go when he tells us to go?

“The righteous keep moving forward, and those with clean hands become stronger and stronger.” Job 17:9

Dear God, let us keep moving forward in the light of your word and in faith, declaring with Paul…

“Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Philippians 3:12
