Christian Devotional-Stories and Bible verses about the presence of God in our lives

Life Well Used

It rains snow …

life well used

It rains snow all night…

There are no less cliche-ridden words to describe it…

It rains snow…

Until the snowy white covering on the patio becomes a mound worth measuring…

life well used

Till the last leaves of autumn droop with the first snow of winter…

life well used

Pretty snow…

Pristine snow…

Picture perfect snow…

life well used

The little girl is in the snow from the time it starts.

“It’s snowing…”

“I want to eat the snow!”

Sneakers and pajamas…

life well used

Tongue catching falling flakes…

Hands scooping the already fallen snow from the table.

Almost too excited to sleep.

She gets up early the next day…

Makes snow balls…

Life well used

Makes a Snowman with a carrot nose that won’t stay in place…

life well used

Leaving patches of green where the snowman was born…

Leaving footprints…

Leaving snow no longer pristine…

Snow no longer picture perfect.

Leaving messy snow…

Leaving snow well used.

Should our whole life be like that well-used, messy snow?

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming “Wow! What a Ride!”– Hunter S. Thompson

What is a life well used?

What can it be but a life devoted to God?

Created day by day, minute by minute…

…Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Romans 12:1-2

Could a life well used …

Be a life a life spent focused on love?

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.  …‘Love your neighbor as yourself.   Mark 12:30

A life spent focused not on the things of this world…

But on God and His kingdom…

… seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:33

Even when that means making a conscious choice…

Between the things of this world and the next…

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.  Romans 12:2

Perhaps then one day we will hear God say…

…‘Well done, good and faithful servant!   Matthew 25:21
