Christian Devotional-Stories and Bible verses about the presence of God in our lives

My Help Comes From The Lord

My help comes from the Lord , who made heaven and earth. Psalm 121:2

“Whatever,” the young woman says into her cell phone…

my help comes from the Lord

tears run down her cheeks…

She holds her phone tightly with one hand…

And wipes away the tears with the other.

“Whatever,” she says again…

“But it really sucks…”

A middle-aged man walks past…

His eyes on the ground…

His shoulders slumped forward…

As he talks to an invisible presence on the other end of his cell phone…

“No, They’re not sure…”

“We won’t really know until they do another cat scan.”

The parade of people continues down the hospital corridor…

In the corner, an older man leans against a wall and dials his phone…

“Hello? No, not yet…”

“The woman ahead of her for surgery had complications…”

“They have haven’t even started on her.”

“They were supposed to start two and a half hours ago.”

In the waiting area…

A man shakes his head as he talks quietly into his phone…

“She’ll have to take between 32 and 45 pills a day for the rest of her life…”

“She’ll need help…”

“They want the whole family here Saturday for training.”

It’s instinctive…

When we get bad news…

We reach for our cell phones and call for help…

We call for reassurance…

For support…

But there’s another call to make…

In my distress I called to the Lord, and he answered me.  Psalm 120:1

And call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.”  Psalm 50:15

A call to our real source of help…

My help comes from the Lord , who made heaven and earth. Psalm 121:2

A call we can make even when we don’t know what to say…

For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.  Romans 8:26

A call that can end all our fear and anxiety…

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.  Philippians 4:6

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.  Isaiah 41:10

So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”  Hebrews 13:6

In the darkest, most difficult hour…

God wants us to remember…

“My Help Comes from the Lord …”
