Christian Devotional-Stories and Bible verses about the presence of God in our lives

It’s Hard Work Being Perfect!

perfect“A little to the right!”

“No!  Back just a little.”

“Now it’s leaning forward!”

“Get out of the way! It’s falling …”

My parents are putting up the Christmas tree…

It has to be perfect…

After the tree is straight to a tolerance that can only be measured by lasers or my mother’s eye, we put on the lights…

They must be evenly spaced with no two of the same color near each other…

Next come the ornaments….

The big ones on the bottom, the mid-sized ones in the middle and the tiny ones at the top.

Woe to the person who hangs two identical ornaments within the 6 inch exclusionary zone, because…

Everything has to be perfect for Christmas….

The tree has to be perfect…

Our decorations have to be perfect…

We have to be perfect…

But God tells us: “Come as you are.  Here’s my Grace. Take it as free gift.  Put your feet up. Have that cup of Christmas Cocoa…

“My Son has your imperfections covered…”

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 2 Corinthians 12:9

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. Ephesians 2:8-9
