Christian Devotional-Stories and Bible verses about the presence of God in our lives

Give Us Power!

“Money is the Mc-mansion in Sarasota that starts falling apart after 10 years.”

powerThe lead character from a popular TV drama addressed the audience directly…

“Power is the old stone building that stands for centuries.”

The program ended and we changed channels to the news…

The story was about a politician who had lied, cheated and broken the law to maintain his power…

Power was starting to feel like a negative force…

Doesn’t God give us power?

For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power…2Timothy 1:7

What does God give us along with that power?

For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.  2Timothy 1:7

In exercising that kind of love, we follow His example…

God, already possessing all power, chooses to exercise it with love and self-control.

If God gives us power what does He want us to do with it?

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”   Acts 1:8

God gives us power to be His witnesses…

And to what will we witness?  What story will we tell?

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

We will witness to the power of God’s love…

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.  By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:34-35

Was the TV character right?

Is power the only way to build a lasting monument?

Or is it love that lasts?

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13
