Christian Devotional-Stories and Bible verses about the presence of God in our lives

Perfect Life!

The card came in the mail….

It brought wonderful news…

Perfect news..…

Joyful news…

But is that the whole story?

Maybe the answer depends on who you asked…

I opened the envelope as soon as I saw it…

I knew who it was from and what it was about…

It was a birth announcement…

perfect

There it was… the oh-so-perfect picture of a new-born baby…

The picture-perfect moment we share in our status updates and tweets…

“So happy to be a new mom!”

“Totally in love with my Baby!”

“Allison loves her little brother!”

“Life is perfect!”

Really?

What about feedings at 1:00 AM, 3:00 AM and 5:00 AM?

What about sleep deprivation so deep you can barely think?

What about first-time parent anxiety that makes you sure you will “break” your new baby?

We don’t talk about our worries and fears and anxieties…

We’d rather live in the myth of the perfect, happy life.

On social media, our marriages are always happy, the sun shines except when we want a little rain to water the grass and our children discover life saving vaccines in 5th grade science class.

If you only knew what you read about many of us on social media, you might think we lead an existence so perfect we don’t need God.

Is ‘Perfect Life Syndrome” limited to social media?

Are we honest with our friends about the state of our life?

Are we honest with ourselves about the state of our soul?

If we are not honest with ourselves, how can we be honest with God?

And If we are not honest with God, how can we surrender to His power?

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4: 6-7

P.S.

The card I received included a pretty big dose of honesty and humor…

Here’s the picture and caption I found on the back of the card…

No so Perfect
