Christian Devotional-Stories and Bible verses about the presence of God in our lives

Why is God So Hard to See?

“What you see,” said my friend, “depends on your perspective…”

seeHe fell silent, tilted his head slightly to the side and gazed into the distance thinking deep thoughts…

He certainly sounded wise…

so I nodded my head knowingly and stared into the same empty spot in the corner..

Take for instance that bug on the floor”, he continued…

What?  There was a bug on the floor?

“We’re right in front of him, but he can’t see us because we’re simply too big.

“Oh, he might see a shoe lace or the sole of a shoe, but he can’t see us, so he has no idea what he’s looking at.”

“Yes”, he concluded, “objects that surround us are the hardest to see”.

Deep philosophical thought early in the morning makes me hungry.

I ate a doughnut and tried to put the whole conversation out of my mind.

But I couldn’t…

“Objects that surround us are the hardest to see”.

Like the earth, I thought…

When we are surrounded by it…

dirt

…we have no idea what it really looks like…

Like God…who is everywhere…

...Behold, heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain you; 1 Kings 8:27

Like God…Who never leaves us…

“…God has said,“Never will I leave you;
never will I forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5

Like God, from whom we can never run…

Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.  Psalm 139 7-10

God is too big for our eyes to see, our minds to understand, our hearts to hold…

And yet He reaches out to us, and waits for us to reach back to him…

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”- Mathew 7:7
