I believe many misunderstand what is actually being said. In all the scriptures you listed. The joy is in the Lord. Not the things of this world. If we look at each and every man and women of the Bible. Let’s use David as an example. When he was in the Lord and his faith was with the Lord. He was blessed and at peace. But when David strayed from the Lord and his graces. Great sorrow fell upon him. This holds true with every man and women of the Bible. When they would look to the world for happiness. They only found sorrow. When their faith was completely in the Lord. They had peace and blessings. James 4:4 also confirms this. How much scripture is there on being hated for Jesus’s name? Many seem to misunderstand this and try to believe happiness can be found in this world. If one truly knows who the ruler of this world is today. Nothing of this world should bring us happiness. Only Jesus can. Many things of this world do not honor him. It is a broad path to destruction and a narrow path to righteousness. There are few who find it. The point is. If we are truly following Jesus. Nothing of this world should bring us happiness. Only Jesus will. Jesus to all!
How very true. It is in our fallen nature to focus on the things of this world, and to worship them instead the one who provides them. As Paul says in Philippians 4:12: I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.
In Philippians 1:21 Paul puts his relationship with God even above his earthly life: For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.
