Imitation-The Sincerest Form of Love?

Blue….

colored hair

Her hair is electric blue…

Cut and styled to spike out in all directions…

His hair is styled the same way,  then colored bright pink

I meet them as I turn into the produce aisle in the grocery store…

My first thoughts are…

“Wow! They go together!”

“Is he imitating her… or is she imitating him?”

Rounding the corner of the aisle, I see my wife…

We don’t have matching hair styles…

Neither of us has electric blue hair.

You might not pick us out as a couple if you saw us separately…

But over the years we have influenced and imitated each other…

She has taught me to like Asian food…

I have convinced her that eating chicken livers is a really bad idea.

Our personal styles reflect our age and the activities we like…

Maybe we subconsciously imitate each other.

We are at the grocery store after a phone call from our grown daughter.

She is coming over for dinner.

“How about baked sweet potatoes?” I ask.

“I really don’t like sweet potatoes.” she says.  “They taste so slimy.”

I think back to all the years we ate sweet potatoes while she was growing up.

Then I remember when she first brought home a new boyfriend… the one she would eventually marry …

“Don’t fix sweet potatoes.” she said.  “He thinks they taste slimy.”

Ten years later, and she thinks sweet potatoes taste slimy, too.

Maybe imitation is the sincerest form of love…

Who will you imitate today?

Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children.   Ephesians 5:1

…Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps. 1 Peter 2:21

If we imitate God…

Others will see Him…

And maybe they will follow Him too…

In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.  Mathew 5:16
