Wedding Story-The Dressmaker

“$200 dollars…”

dreamstimeextrasmall_8535731“I’ve saved for a long time…”

“I want a really nice wedding dress…”

She was 67 years old…

She’d never been married.

Everything had to be perfect.

“Two hundred dollars?” asked the dress shop owner.

“Yes. Because I want a really great dress.”

The owner of the dress shop hesitated for just a moment…

“For 200 dollars, we’ll find you a great dress!”

The shop was full of brides… most spending thousands of dollars on wedding gowns and bridesmaid’s dresses.

But the owner waited on this customer personally, patiently.

Finally the bride found her dress…

“This dress. I want this one!”

“Here’s the perfect veil.” said the owner.

She put it on the bride…

The bride started to cry.

“I think we should bustle the dress.” said the shop owner.

“Here’s my $200.”

‘Thank you.  Come back next Wednesday for a final fitting.”

The bride left and the shop owner stood looking down at the two hundred dollars in her hand…

She had paid way more than two hundred dollars for the dress… not counting the veil or the labor for the fitting and bustling of the dress.

She didn’t know the bride’s whole story…

She didn’t know that for most of her life the bride had struggled with learning challenges…

She didn’t know the bride had been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder…

She only knew that she had done the right thing.

She heard a whisper from God as she went about her daily work…

She responded to that whisper and followed the example of Christ…

I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.  Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them John 13:15-17

Because she followed the example of Christ…

God showed up in her life, the life of the bride and groom and everyone they touched.

God wasn’t finished…

He’d find more ways to show up at this wedding.

Next…the story of the innkeeper…
